Rogaine & Minoxidil
Rogaine is a topical medicine that contains minoxidil. Other than being a liquid, there is now Rogaine foam. The foam is FDA approved and is as effective as the topical medication. Rogaine is mainly for androgenetic alopecia, but are used to treat telogen effluvium. Minoxidil will do more harm than good to people affected with alopecia areata. See your doctor for the correct diagnosis of your hair loss.
Does Rogaine really work? The FDA would not approve something that does not work. Does Rogaine work on frontal baldness? No. The creation of Rogaine was for balding of the crown only. How does Rogaine work? Rogaine is applied to the scalp at the site where the patient is losing hair. How does minoxidil work? Minoxidil is an anti-androgen. These needed anti-androgens reverse the effects of androgenetic alopecia. Rogaine is not just for men, either. There is Rogaine for women. Rogaine works best either alone or with oral Spironolactone. This drug lowers the blood pressure. Allow three to six months for it to work for you before ceasing treatment. Alternatively, rather than ceasing treatment, women can increase the amount of minoxidil they use. The FDA has approved 2% for women, but after six months, increase the amount to the men’s percentage of five.
The herbal product, Avacor, is available online. So, which is better? Avacor or Rogaine? Both products have their advantages and side effects. However, dermatologists and physicians are recommending Rogaine over Avacor because there is no evidence published saying that Avacor is a superior product. The side effects of Rogaine include an itchy scalp, very low blood pressure, and headaches. Minoxidil side effects include irregular or fast heartbeat, acne at the site of application, blurred vision, and chest pains. If you experience any one of these symptoms or a combination of these symptoms, please see your doctor immediately. Rogaine side effects vary from person to person, so if you experience something different from listed, see your doctor.
Rogaine results in filling in the bald spots on the crown of your head. This is what you are looking for! Remember these things take time. Like propecia and retin, Rogaine is proven in rejuvenating hair and stimulates new growth.
Minoxidil and Rogaine are right for you if you have androgenetic alopecia. Rogaine is effective with telogen effluvium, as well, however it is not as highly recommended as some of the other medications that are on the market.
