Fatty Acids
Fatty acids are essential in any diet. The body cannot produce one fatty acid it needs. These acids are in plant oils. There are three essential fatty acids. Fish oils contain the omega-3 fatty acids that are essential to the body.
The body cannot make Omega 3 fatty acids, which is why they are essential acids. Scientists are discovering the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids. They are essential in regulating blood pressure and the immune system. One omega 3 fatty acid called docosapentaenoic acid, or DPA, is in marine oils, such as seal. There are few foods containing omega 3 fatty acids. You need to be aware of 3 acid fatty omega source foods. Walnuts, flax seed oil, canola oil, fatty fish and fish oils are listed as being high in omega 3 fatty acids.
Trans fatty acids, or trans fat, is created in the hydrogenation of plant oils. Trans fat is not a healthy fat. There is a high content of trans fatty acids in fast food. Dieticians and doctors want you to limit the fast food you eat. Trans fatty acids are not essential to the diet, and as such should be avoided in home cooking. Use cooking oils and margarines that do not contain trans fat or hydrogenated oils. This will help cut down on the amount of trans fat you intake.
Manufacturers who make rubber, paper, soaps and detergents, printing inks, metalworking fluids, corrosion inhibitors and plasticizers use a tall oil fatty acid in creating these products.
One of the best sources of 3 acid fatty fish omega on the market is an equine fish oil called Equine Omega 3 Fish Oil, specially formulated as a supplement for horses. There are of course other 3 acid fatty fish omega supplements formulated for humans to be found at your local health food store. Inuit eat a lot of seal and other seafood. Omega 3 fatty acid supplements reduce the risk of cardiac deaths. Eating tofu and other forms of soybeans and fatty fish twice per week is beneficial. Patients taking more than 3 grams of omega 3 fatty acid supplements should do so under the care of a doctor as it can cause severe bleeding in some people.
