Wig Care
Wig care is simple if you follow the instructions given to you. Take the time to follow the directions carefully. All professional wig stores will tell you how to care for a wig.
Caring for synthetic wigs is one of the easiest things you will do. Always wash your wig with wig shampoo and conditioner after you have worn it about eight times. Use cold water, as hot water may damage the hair. Do not squeeze, rub or blow dry as this will damage the hair. Spray on the moisturizing conditioner, sit the wig on a tall glass or vase, and let it air dry. Use a wig brush and comb to style your wig. You also cannot use your regular shampoo for wig care – shampoo and conditioner for wigs must be used.
Brandywine Wig Care is for men’s hairpieces and lace front wigs. It is for both synthetic wig care and human wig care. Brandywine Wig Care is available online. You might be able to purchase it at a professional wig store in your area.
Other items you need for synthetic wigs care are wig stand, wig brush and wig comb. There are travel wig care kits available online.
If you are unsure of how to take care of your wig, visit a professional wig shop and they will show you how to care for it. You need to know if you have a synthetic wig or a human hair wig. Most professionals will be able to tell just by looking and feeling your wig, however if you can tell them in advance, they can get the right supplies quickly and get you on your way sooner.
Properly maintaining your wig will ensure a long life for the piece. You may have to replace your wig in the future, however, due to the wear and tear of putting on and taking off your wig – the base will eventually wear thin and start to fall apart. Once that happens, you can take the piece to a professional wig shop and see what options are available to you – they may be able to make a new piece out of the hair for you, or apply the hair to another piece for children who need a wig due to chemotherapy.
If you choose to stop wearing your wig, and it is in excellent shape, perhaps you could consider donating it to the local cancer clinic. They provide wigs to cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.
